You know, it’s funny how you can look up information about the health benefits of baking soda and immediately see tons of “medical references” claiming it’s harmful. Honestly, I believed that for years without doing my own research.

But then, I found myself in a real health pickle. My acid reflux and my weight had teamed up to create a whole host of issues. I was on prescription Prevacid, and I mean on it for years—taking it every single day. The side effects? They were absolutely horrible. Let’s just say my worries about my intestines and gut health were really starting to pile up. Yet, the doctors I was seeing were absolutely adamant that I needed to be on Prevacid daily.

I had a growing issue. I was losing my voice.

Something that is probably the biggest fear for my professional life.
Okay, so when my voice loss went from just a day or two to a full week, I absolutely rushed back to those same doctors. From there, I ended up getting an endoscopy. And let me tell you, the outcome of that had my wife seriously concerned. I was told I needed to lose weight (which, trust me, I’d been trying endlessly to do—up and down, yo-yoing, and almost always tacking on a few more pounds each year) and that I needed a very extensive surgery.

Well, I was not going to get that surgery. Nothing about it felt right, and honestly, the research on it was not favorable in the slightest. So, out of sheer desperation, we went on a really aggressive weight loss plan, and I lost 35 pounds. I then repeated the process and lost another 15 pounds. Not only did I stop snoring, but my acid reflux was finally under control—and not because of Prevacid!

But because of baking soda. Because we found that baking soda helps your health:

So, my mother came to visit, and she handed me this small Tupperware container of aluminum-free baking soda. Turns out, she’d been going through something similar, and a natural medicine doctor had actually told her to use baking soda daily. I’d heard about it before, and honestly, after being around all these health issues, I just knew I had to get away from Prevacid and any other over-the-counter antacids. They simply weren’t working, and if anything, they were only making things worse.

The more I used it daily, the more my throat healed from the damages of acid reflux.

  • So, just imagine: I was on prescription antacids daily for years, and they never did more than just subside the issues. Multiple doctors told me I was on the “right path.” It took my mother sharing what a health professional (one who actually cared about curing issues, not just making money for big pharma) had told her to finally open my eyes.
  • And there’s so much more to it. The deeper I got into my own research, the more I realized how seed oils and processed foods contain so many harmful things—they’re literally in all processed foods.   • If I had kept eating what was being advertised and visually thrown at me everywhere, I was absolutely going to end up like so many others: sick and obese. I am so incredibly glad I had that wake-up call and so glad I kept researching and looking for natural solutions. Baking soda really does help your health. And the more you research and look into things surrounding it, the more you’ll find that will help you even more.

The Weight Came Back! All this work to lose the 50 pounds, and for what?

  • And then, despite everything I was doing, it all came back, and fast. And guess what? It brought friends! My snoring returned, though thankfully my acid reflux was still at bay, but again, that was thanks to my daily use of baking soda.
  • How much, you ask? Just half a tablespoon. Now, here’s a super important fact: ABSOLUTELY DO NOT use metal spoons to mix the baking soda in your water before you drink it. Seriously, use a wooden spoon, or even plastic, or just your finger. Never, ever let baking soda touch metal, especially aluminum.
  • There’s something that happens when it does, and it’s definitely not good. This is why you need to realize that many of the big name-brand baking sodas are actually made using sheets of aluminum, and that’s how it gets into the product. The makers of these products know this, and in my strong opinion—something I believe 100% to be true—they know it harms us. There’s just no way they don’t know it’s harmful.
  • That being said, please only source out brands like Red Mills (that’s the brand I’ve been trusting). It must state it’s aluminum-free. If it doesn’t say “aluminum-free,” it’s not. Period. They never list aluminum as an ingredient because it’s added during their manufacturing process. And that, frankly, should worry anyone.

I could go on and on about this, but let’s just say the prescription antacid business is absolutely booming, and it’s not because they cure or stop anything. It’s because they just make the pain a little easier to live with, keeping you on them indefinitely. This is truly alarming, and common sense tells us this is wrong on so many levels.

Something to say about doctors and medical professionals:

While there are definitely some great ones out there, we’ve found a few things you really need to be aware of.

  • If you go to your doctor and they immediately jump to prescribing drugs, they’re acting more like a drug dealer than your actual “doctor.” It’s so interesting, isn’t it? When we take our dogs to the vet, they’re incredibly thorough. They ask all about the dog’s lifestyle: How much exercise are they getting? What are they eating? What’s their day-to-day like?
  • When we go to our doctors, they rarely, if ever, delve into our lifestyles. And that’s exactly where so many of our issues could be solved! Instead, they rush to push pills. That’s just not a good thing for any of us. You really need to find a doctor who genuinely cares about what’s best for you.

Here was a Wake Up about doctors and what they do:

  • “What prescriptions are prescribed to you?””What prescriptions are you taking?” These were the very first questions that my doctor asked me when I went in for a physical. I told them I don’t take any prescriptions, and honestly, they looked at me in total disbelief. I get it; for anyone over 40, most people are on several pills and combinations. It’s sad, but it’s a direct indicator of why we’re sharing what we are with the world: to achieve better health and finally get rid of the “corrupt Big Pharma and Big Food.”
  • Sadly, most doctors have been truly shocked that I don’t take prescriptions. I look young, and all my health indicators are great!
