5 Awesome Gift Baskets for the Holidays

Want to know my secret for making a gift basket truly unforgettable? It’s all about including a bottle of fine wine! Seriously, it instantly takes any basket from nice to absolutely amazing. And as they’re sipping on that beautiful bottle, they’re going to be thinking of you – how lovely is that?

Now, a quick tip: we’re talking real fine wine here. You know, the kind that makes you feel special. Skip the cheap stuff or those “punch wines” that just don’t have the same heart. Honestly, those can scream “I skimped!” or even worse, “You’re not worth the best.” And we definitely don’t want to send that message, do we?

That’s why I always reach for a true fine wine. It’s often from an incredible Wine of the Month Membership that I belong to. It really does make all the difference. SEE DETAILS HERE.

What I absolutely love about these fine wines is the incredible price point and value they offer. And here’s the best part: these aren’t just any wines! Your friends and family probably can’t find them locally, making them feel even more exclusive and thoughtful.

I’ve been including these amazing wines in my gift baskets for years now, and honestly, everyone is always so impressed! It really elevates a gift from “nice” to “wow.” This ensures your baskets are not just received, but truly enjoyed and remembered on the highest level. You’ll definitely be thanked for your efforts!

Preparing for the YEAR of Giving:

You know, gift baskets aren’t just for Christmas! They’re honestly the best way to say, You are so special to us. We just want to let you know how much we appreciate you! They’re my absolute go-to for a pick-me-up, a “get well soon,” or a huge congratulations!

Think about it: new baby? Wedding? An anniversary (especially those really big ones!)? Promotions, retirements, or any amazing achievement? Life is absolutely full of milestones and wins, both big and small. Celebrating those moments with the people that are involved. Even if you’re just their biggest fan from afar. That’s really what matters the most.

So, throughout the year, keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to use gift baskets. I even like to keep a few basic supplies in my closet for easy assembly. For me, that always includes at least a bottle of wine and two wine glasses. Then I just build from there!

Now, let’s dive into this list of five fantastic ideas:

5 Awesome Gift Baskets

To start, you’ll need just the right basket. You can go with a classic square, a beautiful oval, or even a modern boxy shape. Pop in that special bottle of fine wine and the glasses to go with it. Next, just fill it in with some pretty shredded paper. It really helps make it look extra nice and keeps everything cozy.

This Is By Far the Easiest and, in many Cases, the Absolute Best. The Simple Wine and Wine Glasses:

  • Bottle of Fine Wine (Recommended from here)
  • 2 Wine Glasses (or 4). These often go for under $20 at TJ Maxx. If you’re on the hunt for a bargin, they are cheaper elsewhere. I’ve even spotted them for just a dollar each at the Dollar Store! These disposable, easy-to-use glasses definitely have their place – they’re perfect for using and then just tossing.
  • ADD a NOTE:
    • Why not enjoy your gift of wine and glasses on a romantic picnic? You won’t have to worry about breaking your good crystal!
    • Maybe take them to the park, enjoy them while you’re watching the big game, or even during a Little League game – because let’s be honest, even those are more fun with a little wine!

Just a little note: This really doesn’t have to break the bank! You can snag a great basket, shredded paper, and even cute wine glasses for next to nothing at the Dollar Store. The Fine Wine is truly the biggest investment here, and it’s absolutely incredible when you get it from [CLICK ON IMAGE – or your recommended source/link here].

If you have some cellophane on hand, it’s always a fantastic way to secure everything in the basket and make it look super polished! You can grab cellophane bags for just about every size and need [Amazon link here]. I always keep a good stock of them, especially before big gift-giving occasions like Christmas, New Year’s, and (for us!) that September rush of birthdays!

Awesome Gift Baskets Is still Easy; just adding more of an italian theme.

  • A Bottle of Fine Wine:
  • I’d highly recommend getting it from here.
  • This is where the magic happens – you really want to choose a wine that complements your sauce.
  • If you’re going with a white sauce, think a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, a lovely Chenin Blanc, a classic Chardonnay, or even a light Pinot Noir. For red sauces, you absolutely can’t go wrong with a bold Cabernet Sauvignon, a smooth Merlot, another versatile Pinot Noir, or even a spicy Syrah. Honestly, a true Fine Wine will bring out incredible flavors with almost any sauce, so it’s hard to make a bad choice!
  • Their Favorite Pasta:
    • This is totally up to you – whether it’s classic spaghetti, elegant fettuccine, cute bow-tie pasta, or whatever pasta you know they’d love.
  • The Perfect Sauce:
    • After the wine, the sauce is the star of the show here! Just make sure it pairs well with your chosen pasta.
    • If you’re gifting for a specific number of people (a cozy party of two, four, six, or more!), be sure to include enough pasta to feed everyone generously.

A little note to make it extra special: If you’ve actually tried this exact wine with this pasta and sauce combo yourself, definitely include a little note about how much you enjoyed it, and how it made you think of them having a wonderful time too! You could even suggest they have a fantastic, relaxing night in. And if they have little ones, it would be so thoughtful to offer to host the kids so they can truly enjoy some precious alone time.

And assembling these Awesome Gift Baskets is still so simple, because we’re just basing everything around the wine, which is the main event!

  • 2 or 4 Bottles of Fine Wine:
    • This really depends on how grand you want your “Gift of all Gifts” to be, but I always recommend getting them from from here.
    • Since you’ll be adding meats and cheeses, offering both a white and a red variety gives them such a nice assortment of tastes. It also makes the whole tasting experience super flexible!
    • For the whites, a crisp Pinot Grigio, a lovely Rosé, or a zesty Sauvignon Blanc are perfect. (Oh, and a little secret: Rosé is a Charcuterie dream wine! It pairs with almost everything and is such an easy way to introduce anyone to the joy of charcuterie.)
    • For the reds, a Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or even a Grenache would be a fantastic addition.
  • Charcuterie Board:
    • This is totally optional, but adding a dedicated board really makes a statement that this is a proper Charcuterie Gift Basket, designed for a really fun and delicious experience!
    • You can find cute ones at places like TJ Maxx or other home goods stores, and of course, they’re everywhere online.
    • A simple one is perfectly lovely, or you could even get a custom-engraved one for a truly lasting memento!

  • Delicious Meats:
    • Think classic Summer Sausage, zesty Pepperoni, savory Salami, or delicate Prosciutto.
    • You can add one, two, three, or even a whole selection.
    • The beauty of this gift basket is that you can make it as big or as small as you would like!
  • Complementary Cheeses.:
    • The goal here is to find cheeses that really sing with the meats, balancing out those lovely salts and spices.
    • Cheddar, Gouda, Asiago, Brie, and Blue are all fantastic choices that add a wonderful balance.
    • Don’t feel like you need huge blocks! Cheese actually goes a long way. You can often find perfect little wedges for two people right at your deli counter.
  • Olives, Capers, or Pickled Vegetables:
    • Adding a small assortment of these is a brilliant way to elevate your charcuterie-themed gift basket.
    • It really bring out that “wow” factor!
  • Preserves, Fruit Compote, or Honey:
    • I often find these little jars at TJ Maxx, at the grocery store, or sometimes even by asking at the deli counter.
    • These are wonderful for adding a sweet or tangy supplement that truly enhances the flavor experience with the wine, cheese, and meats. Plus, it’s something many people haven’t tried before, which makes it even more fun to discover!
  • Crackers:
    • You’ll want a water cracker or something quite plain here. This is something that won’t compete with the amazing flavors of the wine and cheese.
    • Plain salted Ritz or Club Crackers work in a pinch, but I really love a good, light water cracker.
    • They’re perfect for delivering that delicious cheese right to your mouth to enjoy with the wine!

A little note just for them: Oh, this is going to be so much fun for you both! If I’ve tried any of these goodies before, I’d definitely share how much I enjoyed them. And be sure to tell them to set everything up and start with the white wines first, then move to the reds. That way, they can really savor all the different flavors and how they evolve with each wine! You could even describe how you picture them enjoying this charcuterie spread during an upcoming game, or just relaxing on a lazy Saturday or Sunday out on the patio. It’s such a warm and thoughtful gesture, truly a “Gift of caring” that will really touch their hearts.

This isn’t a giant charcuterie board, and it truly doesn’t have to be! This gift is all about the simple pleasure of a beautiful fine wine, some lovely cheese, and crackers that complement it perfectly. And then, of course, there’s the delightful anticipation of figuring out just when and how to enjoy it!

  • Bottle of Fine Wine:
    • Definitely get it from here.
    • This is where the fun comes in: matching the wine to the cheese you’ve picked, or finding the ideal cheese for the wine you’ve already chosen for them! Good old Cheddar is a real crowd-pleaser and works with so many different wines. If you’ve got a soft cheese like brie, a sparkling wine is absolutely divine with it. And honestly, if you’re ever feeling stuck, a Pinot Noir is a fantastic, safe bet with almost any cheese! Cabernet Sauvignon also has a lot of great cheese companions.
  • Their Favorite Cheese (or two!):
    • You’ll definitely want a cheese that’s a good partner for the wine.
    • Think specialty cheeses – a nice wedge or a small block is perfect to enjoy with a single bottle of wine.
    • I highly recommend trying these pairings yourself first! That way, you’ll get a real feel for what wine and cheese combinations you love, and you can share that personal experience with them. You might even find that two cheeses are better than one, like offering both a classic Cheddar and a nutty Asiago!
  • Crackers:
    • You will want a water cracker or a plain cracker. Something that will not add spice or seasoning to the Wine and Cheese pairing. Plain Salted Ritz or Club Crackers do in a pinch.
    • Though the Carter Brand Water Crackers are light, they are useful for getting the cheese nicely into your mouth to go with the wine.

Explain that this wine and cheese pairing was put together just for their enjoyment! Maybe they could savor it during a cozy movie night, or while they’re cooking dinner together. If you know them well, you could even suggest they enjoy it for their upcoming anniversary, or perhaps the Sunday after a busy week. Suggesting a specific time or occasion really lets them know you’re thinking of them and genuinely want to add a little something special to their life, even if it’s just for one lovely moment. And honestly, a handwritten note is so powerful – it feels like a bit of a lost art, doesn’t it? Let’s bring it back; it’s a gift in itself!

Creating an Awesome Gift Basket is honestly beyond easy – we’re just adding a little more of a fun theme! And now for MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE – but it’s one I usually reserve for my very best friends: CHOCOLATE!

You know what my ultimate indulgence is? It’s dark chocolate paired with a beautiful Fine Merlot. If you haven’t tried it, you absolutely must get the Ricord Merlot (find it [link here] – it’s the only place!). Add some really good dark chocolate, and prepare to be in heaven. It is, without a doubt, the best thing ever. I’m practically salivating just sharing this with you!

  • Bottle of Fine Wine:
    • I’d highly recommend getting it from here.
    • This is where the magic happens – you really want to choose a wine that complements your sauce.
    • If you’re going with a white sauce, think a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, a lovely Chenin Blanc, a classic Chardonnay, or even a light Pinot Noir.
    • For red sauces, you absolutely can’t go wrong with a bold Cabernet Sauvignon, a smooth Merlot, another versatile Pinot Noir, or even a spicy Syrah.
    • Honestly, a true Fine Wine will bring out incredible flavors with almost any sauce, so it’s hard to make a bad choice!
  • Their Go-To Pasta:
    • This is where you can have fun! Spaghetti, fettuccine, charming bow-ties – pick their favorite kind of pasta!
  • Delicious Sauce:
    • This is almost as important as the wine! Just make sure the sauce you pick is a great match for the pasta.
    • If you know how many people they’ll be serving (two, four, six, or a bigger crowd), make sure you include enough pasta for everyone to enjoy!

A little note to make it extra sweet:

If you found that amazing chocolate in a special spot – maybe while you were on holiday or somewhere memorable – definitely share that story! Then, you can suggest they enjoy this treat on a romantic evening together, perhaps by a cozy fire, or all snuggled up on a wintery night. There are just so many lovely ways to share what you envision for them. And even if they don’t follow your exact suggestion, the simple fact that you cared enough to write it will be so rewarding and truly a gift in itself. There are countless ways to enjoy these gift baskets and the wonderful moments they create for the loved ones you’re giving them to!

BONUS

Okay, this next idea is also beyond easy, and it’s simply a fantastic STANDBY for literally any occasion! It’s truly THE EASIEST SOLUTION TO PLEASE ANYONE – THE DELIVERY GIFT CARD:

  • A Bottle of Fine Wine (And of course, I always recommend getting it from here). Two bottles of different varieties work beautifully, but even a single bottle is perfect. You’ve probably got the hang of this whole wine thing by now, right?
  • Their Go-To Takeout! Think DoorDash, GrubHub, Uber Eats, and Postmates – these are just a few of the services that offer handy gift cards. You can usually pick them up right at your local supermarket, Walmart, or even surprisingly, at some hardware stores! Those gift card kiosks seem to be everywhere these days. My advice? Keep a few of these on hand for when occasions pop up. That way, you’re not scrambling at the last minute – you’re totally prepared! And trust me, this is a surefire way to please absolutely anyone.

Don’t forget to include a little message to go with it. Suggest that they put this to good use on one of those wild nights. Especially when a takeout is a must, and a glass of wine is just what you need to smooth over life’s little stresses. This isn’t just a present; it’s a thoughtful hand up on a day that feels like it went on forever. It’s the perfect solution when they’ve been told to just unwind and let loose at work. And how wonderful that you’re the one giving them that peace!
